Group RRSP
A Group RRSP is a program established by an employer, with
the help of a financial institution for the benefit of its
employees. Employers can contribute or not to the program.
Main features
The participation of an employee is on a
voluntary basis.
The total amount is paid RRSP without tax
since it is expected to reduce the taxable amount.
A third party administers the RRSP funds
to maximize its performance.
Even the employer's contribution, where
it contributes becomes the property of the employee.
If the employee leaves the company, it
usually has the choice between:
letting the accumulated amount in the plan of his
former employer;
transfer the balance to the plan of his new employer
with the prior consent of the latter;
transfer all in a non-redeemable RRSP before
retirement with a financial institution like a bank.
Obviously, participation in this type of
RRSP reduces the amount of participation possible for a
regular RRSP. Your employer can provide you the exact
information.
